Course Description

The Old Testament, recognized in both Christianity and Judaism as sacred Scripture, serves as a foundation for understanding God's plan of salvation. It not only reveals God's moral will but also foretells the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Paul emphasized the instructional value of these writings, noting that they provide hope and guidance for believers. The Old Testament begins with creation, highlighting God's relationship with humanity and the entrance of sin through Adam and Eve's disobedience. From that moment, the Scriptures trace God's redemptive work, starting with the promise of a coming Messiah in Genesis 3:15. God's covenant with Abraham marks a significant development in this plan, as Abraham's faith was credited as righteousness, and his descendants became the nation of Israel—a people through whom God would reveal His moral will and eventually bring forth the Messiah.

The narrative of Israel's history unfolds in four key phases: formation, kingdom development, kingdom destruction, and national restoration. The formation phase is captured in the Pentateuch, detailing Abraham's call and Israel's deliverance from Egypt. The kingdom phase saw Israel's rise to power under David and Solomon, though Solomon's later disobedience led to the nation's decline. The kingdom was divided, and both the Northern and Southern kingdoms ultimately fell due to persistent sinfulness. Despite this, God's mercy endured, and Israel was restored as a nation after the Babylonian captivity. The Old Testament concludes with a message of hope, pointing toward the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan through Jesus Christ—a plan that unites the Old and New Testaments in a continuous narrative of salvation.

Overall really enjoyed it and it did a great job at summarizing the entire Old Testament. I especially enjoyed the visuals the videos used and how they talked about Israel's military campaigns like a history class.
